NEWS
* 06-11-04 Photo's are here, see below!
* 03-11-04 Well, everything is operational! NodeECF [2] can detect
me in Kismet but can't establish a connection because the link quality
is only 6/96 with a SNR of about -90. We're going to try a parabolic
at his end to see if that helps. If not, we need someone to the EAST
of me and NORTH of him to act as a relay. ANYONE! Pictures coming
soon.
* 22-10-04 FINALLY have everything I need, just have to be bothered
to getting around to putting it all up. Soon, hopefully this
weekend...
* 26-08-04 - Pigtail, & connectors ARRIVED today! Awesome. I'm
thinking of going into lavo and aquiring an old 3m galaxy mast (with
the dish). Also planning other stuff, and WORKING ON THE FREEKING VPN!
(If anyone knows ANYTHING about setting up & running these things with
XP - let me know, because i'm having problems...)
* 21-08-04 - Went out looking for a mast, and downpipe for the
waveguide... Probably going to build it out of colourbond so it's got
a little more strength - seing as it'll hopefully be a 16-Slot
version.
* 20-08-04 - N-Connectors, and Pigtail were ordered from FreeNet [3]
Antennas
* 18-08-04 - Finally after about a year of 'nothingness', things
have started to get going again. Surveying LOS with NodeECF [4], and
plotting coverage maps. Insurance phoned and said that the AP was
ready and would be posted out soon!!!
* 06-11-03 - Coax & N-Female pannel-mount for Waveguide arrived
today! w00t!
SETUP
NodeHTP [5] is running a 180 degree 14dBi gain 'slotted downpipe'
thanks to Rob @ FreeNet [6] Antennas. Connected to a Linksys WRT54G
running OpenWRT [7]... Puts out about 15-15dBm of power (which I want
to increase!!!) 28dBm all together. 7.2m Mast with downpipe at the top
totaling about 8m (legal limit ), and, homebrew alluminium
weatherproof box... And not to forget the 10 or so meters of POE
ethernet cable...
It's pointed in NodeECF [8]'s direction but on the odd occasion when
we can establish a connection it's way too low to communicate...
Dissapointing but measures coming soon to rectify the problem.
