NEWS:
Wireless Meetup comming up over the holidays to help kick start the
Sunbury network.

WIRELESS LOG BOOK:

Tuesday, 23 November
New node found. Someone with the SSID of "WLAN" and MAC of
"00:30:F1:26:FF:3F" is being picked up by me. At the moment I believe
it might be someones house down the road but I'll need to do some
stumbling first.
Although right now I am still not connected to anything around here,
hopefully the message will get around and something will happen.

Wednesday, 22 September
The node is currently down, as I need the hardware for tomorrow's
meetup, although we don't have a time set in stone yet. So it's going
to be an interesting day for all, hopefully all goes well!
Also I need to remind myself to put a new NConnector onto the coax in
the roof, as I lost the pin when soldering *dang*.

Just updated my WRT54G with Alchemy-pre5.2.3.w14 V2.04.4.8sv (not
from the Sveasoft site), all seems to work well. Although OSPF doesn't
seem to be able to be used in this version, but the VLAN and QoS [6]
should come in handy, as well as being able to take the power output
up to 251 mw (just don't ask me to try that though ).

And my new 21Db dish has just arrived too, just need to pick it up
and put it together now.

Just a quick thanks to Ben G for emailing me about having the dipole
in the wrong direction. Being in a rush to install the thing and
forgetting something as silly as that. *wacks self in the back of the
head*

The dish is active! And pointed at Jacksons Hill for now, and I might
beable to get rid of the tree thats blocking the rest of my LOS to
Sunbury.
Also I'll be buying another dish and using it for testing, ect.
Heres a pic of where the dish is pointed [7]
And a sexy shot of the dish [8]
/rant
Although today I managed to get a headache from 2 know it all idiots
who said they could get a bigger dish (not even knowing that this one
is 21Db) when they saw the photo's. Asking them which brand and what
price shut them up
On a side note, the 2 people in question use to talk about how crap
WiFi [9] was but now that their notebooks have that little feature,
one carry's an access point with them around the place. Think I'll
stay with cat 5 thankyou.
/end rant

My WRT54G is running Satori-4.0 v2.07.1.7sv with the SSID of NodeGZX
[10] pointed to Jacksons Hill with a parabolic 21Dbi dish. I would
have liked to have pointed it somewhere else but the people next door
managed to distroy my LOS to everywhere else.
Apart form that the node should be complete by saturday after one
last cable run. So now apart from having 2 routers in the house, I now
have a use for my USB dongle to connect to the WRT54G.

Soon to become an active node!
As soon as I receive my WRT54G from the bulk buy and attach the right
connector for a pigtail, node GZX should be operational!

I will be using a modded 21db hills that I got from eBay (around $60)
and will be using a small amount of CFD200 (greets out to Rob at
FreeNet [11] Antennas). Also had my first go at putting together an
N-connector (managed to get it right in the end ).

So far I've had 2 people contact me about setting up a link although
there's a chance that only one will have LOS.

At the time of writing the dish would be on the roof but thanks to a
4WD knocking me of my bike after work last week, it made it kind of
hard. So hopefully it will be put up next week.

Was walking the dog and remembered the description NodeHEB [12] house
from an email, so it seemed like a good idea to have a talk. We ended
up talking about exGalaxy dishes, not having LOS and some other
smaller things.

Today I received my SVEC 1811-A from EBay (greets to cbc-networks)
all works fine.

Walked down to the local LAN cafe some fragin fun and noticed that
Southern Star Internet is beta testing wireless hotspots in my area. I
wounder if they'd care if I took one of their wave guides?

Stats: Testing
Today I got my IP address allocated and now have a DHCP server
running on a Laptop with Win95. The only problem was I didn't have
oleacc.dll but was able to find an emulating version.
If you are able to connect to my AP the only things you can do are
ping my DHCP server (10.10.32.241) and my Hub (10.10.32.242).

Right now anyone 300-500m from my room can get an IP assigned to
them.
The laptop is a Cyrix 100 MHz with a 500meg HD and a huge 8 meg of
RAM!! And will be used until I have a real setup (after all it doesn?t
have fans and I need sleep).

FWD me on 75613
