WiFi(tm) The Standard for Wireless Fidelity

WiFi is a marketing brand for 802.11b that seems to be owned by the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (External linkWECA). The idea is that any equipment bearing the WiFi logo will be able to talk to any other WiFi branded equipment - hence it is a symbol of interoperability.

This is the logo you should be looking for to ensure WiFi certification:

Certified logo

WECA maintains a list of External linkWiFi certified products on their web site.

It's supposedly short for Wireless Fidelity.

Go figure.
