WiFi(tm) The Standard for Wireless Fidelity

WiFi is a marketing brand for [802.11b] that seems to be owned by the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance ((http://www.weca.net WECA)).  The idea is that any equipment bearing the WiFi logo will be able to talk to any other WiFi branded equipment - hence it is a symbol of interoperability.

This is the logo you should be looking for to ensure WiFi certification:

WECA maintains a list of (http://www.weca.net/OpenSection/certified_products.asp WiFi certified products) on their web site.

It's supposedly short for Wireless Fidelity.
