Shrouded SMA Connectors [1] are the cousins of SMA-Connectors [2], and
provide identical performance.
These shrouded connectors differ only by an extended "shroud" around
the connector making them longer than normal SMA conenctors [3],
therefore making them unable to fully mate with standard connectors.
Shrouded connectors are commonly used on 802.11 [4] gear by Breezecom
[5] due to America's FCC [6] requirements (Part 15.203) where by such
equipment needs non-standard connectors. Other modified SMA [7]
solutions to satisfy the FCC [8] requirements are to either use
"reverse-thread [9]" or (much more commonly) "reverse-polarity [10]"
connectors.
