Spelling: ISM

ISM [1] stands for "Industrial, Scientific and Medical". It refers to
several radio bands left "unlicensed" due to several issues.

The 2.4GHz ISM [2] band is being made available "unlicensed" due to
noise radiated from devices, the most common being microwave ovens.
It's also becoming useful for technologies such as Wireless LANs,
Bluetooth [3], cordless telephones, baby monitors, security
monitoring, and several other applications using spread spectrum [4]
technology.

In Australia, The ACA [5] have allocated the following ISM [6] bands:

* 6.765 MHz to 7 MHz
* 13.41 MHz to 13.57 MHz
* 26.175 MHz to 27.5 MHz (CB-Radio fits within there)
* 39 MHz to 41 MHz
* 902 MHz to 928 MHz (Very common with cordless telephones, and
older WLAN technology)
* 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz (Sometimes called "_The_ ISM [7] Band")
* 5.725 GHz to 5.83 GHz
* 24.05 GHz to 24.25 GHz
* 59.3 GHz to 64 GHz
* 122.25 GHz to 123 GHz
* 241 GHz to 248 GHz

(Note: I must admit some of these frequencies aren't accurate. Check
the ACA [8]'s website for more information)
