THIS IS THE PLACE TO MAKE SUGGESTIONS ABOUT IMPROVING MELBOURNE
WIRELESS GENERAL MEETINGS

GENERAL IDEAS

* Organisers and Committee members need to arrive at the Scout Hall
at 6.30pm to get things organised before people arrive
* Encourage discussion before voting on resolutions, motions or
special resolutions during the official business
* Bad accoustics in the hall makes running a workshop hard whilst
others are socialising

* if more workshops are running concurrently, there could be less
background chatter

* The welcome group should be kept fairly short and sweet - allow
people to get to the BBQ

* decide on the topics to be covered at the welcome group
* ask newbies what they expect from Melbourne Wireless

* the Committee needs to be more proactive in signing up new members
* The timekeeper / MC should have a printed copy of the Agenda and
make sure the meeting sticks to it!
* The meeting chair should have the Committee Report prepared in
point form

WORKSHOP IDEAS

* Workshops can cover the same topic fairly regularly, if not at
every meeting
* OpenWRT [1]
* Antenna Mods
* General Wireless Gear overview
* Waterproof Enclosures / Node In A Box
* Power Over Ethernet
* Intro to Wireless Networking
* IP - Subnetting
* IP - Routing

PRESENTATION IDEAS

* Equipment Vendors / Distributors
* OpenWRT [2]
* Antenna Mods
* Node Setups
* Routing
* Roundtable discussion on various topics

ORGANISER ROLES

* Notes them down on the attendance tally
* Makes sure everyone gets a nametag
* Keeps an eye on the donations tin
* Looks after membership applications on the night
* Sells T-Shirts and other merchandise

TIMEKEEPER / MC

* Makes sure the meeting runs to time and sticks to the Agenda
* Delivers the Welcome Address early in the evening and announces
the Agenda
* Introduces themselves to everyone who comes in the door and asks
them what their main interest is - then directs them to the most
appropriate group
* Wanders amongst the meeting and keeps track of what's happening
and what people are talking about

BBQ MANAGER

* Runs the BBQ
* Delegates tasks as necessary to other members

WELCOME GROUP PERSON

* Runs a discussion group early in the evening to introduce newbies
to Melbourne Wireless and answer their questions
* Asks newbies what they expect from Melbourne Wireless
* Some sort of simple practical demonstration would be good for
newbies

CHAIRPERSON

* Ususally the Melbourne Wireless President
* Presides over any official business at the meeting
* Presents the Committee Report
* Chairs the Region Group Report

WORKSHOP / DISCUSSION GROUP FACILITATORS

* Run a workshop every week covering a topic of basic knowledge that
Melbourne Wireless members should be familiar with
* Workshops don't need to be too well organised
* Complex topics should be broken down into smaller topics for
workshops
* Workshops should focus on questions and answers
* Some workshops should cater to newbies, others to more experienced
members

SWAP MEET VENDORS

* bring wireless gear to the meetings to sell or swap them
