Spelling: Apache

The Apache Software Foundation provides support for the Apache
community of open-source software PROJECTS. The Apache projects are
characterized by a collaborative, consensus based development process,
an open and pragmatic software license, and a desire to create high
quality software that leads the way in its field. WE CONSIDER
OURSELVES NOT SIMPLY A GROUP OF PROJECTS SHARING A SERVER, BUT RATHER
A COMMUNITY OF DEVELOPERS AND USERS.

-------------------------

As highlighted in the above site introduction [1], Apache is a
foundation that supports many projects.

For most people, the strongest association would be to the Webserver
[2] that is included with most of the Free Software distributions, and
is also available for Unix and Windows (Win32).It is one of the best
supported and featured webservers, with many modules (plugins)
available.
The FAQ [3] will answer the usual questions, along with the meaning
behind the chosen name.

Under: * Red Hat it is known as HTTPD - _/etc/init.d/httpd_ * Debian
refers to it as APACHE - _/etc/init.d/apache_ ** or APACHE-PERL -
_/etc/init.d/apache-perl_ ** or APACHE-SSL - _/etc/init.d/apache-ssl_
depending on it's selected capabilities.
