RedHat
A widely used Linux distributor, especially by corporations who like to have a recognisable company to associate with the hacker anarchy that they perceive linux to be.
RedHat are responsible for two Linux distributions:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux which is sold by annual subscription.
- The Fedora Project is a Red-Hat-sponsored and community-supported open source project. It is also a proving ground for new technology that may eventually make its way into Red Hat products. It is not a supported product of Red Hat, Inc.
RedHat are somewhat unique in the commercial software industry, in that they have a patent policy stating their view that software patents generally impede innovation in software development and that software patents are inconsistent with open source/free software.
For more details, see the Red Hat website.
