PRISM-II

Originally made by Harris Semiconductor, and later spun-off as Intersil, the PRISM and now the PRISM II chipsets form the core of many 802.11b cards, including:

Compaq WL-100
Compaq WL-200
D-Link DWL-650
Linksys WPC-11

They are particularly useful for Linux/BSD people because the full specifications of the chipset are available, and consequently, these cards tend to have the best drivers.

The OpenAP access point software, together with a PRISM-II card, allows a Linux box to act as an AccessPoint via the card's HostApMode.
