Originally made by Harris Semiconductor, and later spun-off as [Intersil], the PRISM and now the PRISM II chipsets form the core of many [802.11b] cards, including:
* Compaq WL-100
* Compaq [WL200 WL-200]
* D-Link [DWL-650]
* Linksys WPC-11

They are particularly useful for Linux/BSD people because the full specifications of the chipset are available, and consequently, these cards tend to have the best drivers.

The [OpenAP] access point software, together with a [PRISM-II] card, allows a Linux box to act as an [AccessPoint] via the card's [HostApMode].

See the (http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/Linux.Wireless.drivers.html#Prism2 HOWTO entry) and the (http://people.ssh.com/jkm/Prism2/ Linux driver) page.
