SSID

SSID stands for "Service Set IDentifier" (or sometimes "Service Set IDentification").

An SSID is sometimes also referred to as a "network identifier" because it's a 32-character name attached to the header of packets set over a WLAN to identify exactly which WLAN (or network) the packet is associated with. This is especially important when there are two different WLANs operating on the same channel.

For Melbourne Wireless nodes, Section 7 of the RFC specifies that the SSID be set to "wireless.org.au".
