A widely used Linux [1] distributor, especially by corporations who
like to have a recognisable company to associate with the hacker
anarchy that they perceive Linux [2] to be.
RedHat [3] are responsible for two Linux [4] distributions:
* Red Hat Enterprise Linux [5] which is sold by annual subscription.
* The Fedora Project [6] is a Red-Hat-sponsored and
community-supported open source project. It is also a proving ground
for new technology that may eventually make its way into Red Hat
products. It is not a supported product of Red Hat, Inc.
RedHat [7] are somewhat unique in the commercial software industry,
in that they have a patent policy [8] stating their view that software
patents generally impede innovation in software development and that
software patents are inconsistent with open source/free software.
For more details, see the Red Hat website [9].
