INDUSTRY STANDARD ARCHITECTURE
An expansion card standard for adding core components and extra
peripherals to PCs. Old as the hills, something like 20+ years.
Available initialy in 8-bit form on the very first x86 based PCs, and
then 16-bit form on 286 and later machines. Even implemented by some
manufacturers on sixth and seventh generation x86 motherboards.
Rendered obselete by PCI [1], but will die a slow an painful death,
simply because it has been around for so long.
