Internet Protocol, version 4.
Defined by the IETF [1] in RFC791 [2], this is the protocol most
widely used as the basis of the Internet [3].
It is normally most visible as an IPAddress [4], which in version 4
has the format
_nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn_
where _nnn_ is a number between 0 and 255.
IPv4 is in the process of being superceded by IPv6 [5], although the
transition will take a very long time (like, decades).
