Begun life as an indipendant project between friends to create a local wireless lan with the goal to becoming open to all.Currently looking into joining this project.
Hardware (in the process of setup)
note: some is spare/unused, or on the way.. dam ebay slow delivery
- Dual Pentium 1ghz, 1gig ram, Windows Advanced Server, 3xNetwork cards, 300Gig SCSI HDD.
- Linksys WRT54G
- Webexcel Wireless router
- Netcomm Wireless access point
- Dodgy Korean Wireless Access point
- Everythings internal ATM. External antennas way.
Current Services:
(not on melb wireless yet)- fnx search
- searches localy hosted sites
- perhaps all sites hosted on melbwireless PCs some day)
- Http website hosting
- limited intranet HTML and PHP hosting.
- SQL avalible.
Possible Future services:
- Internet Email server
- Free intranet to internet email for all melbwireless users
- MMORPG Game server
- In dev MMORPG using an open source engine. www.everlastingonline.co.nr
- Limited free internet connectivity (256/64 Shared between all) to all in range.
- Intranet IRC server
Problems
- Currently theres noone cloes enough whos active to connect to. Soloution? Buying an amp and possibly a radio tower
Current status:
Ready to rock and roll. Unfortunatly anyone close enough to link to doesnt reply to emails and has most likely lost interest.If you in the area and interested in linking up, contact me via the contact form.
