The Debian [2] project is a voluntary organisation that maintains a
Linux distribution. It is distinguished by its commitment to Free
Software [3] (as distinct from OpenSource [4]) and its superb package
management tools apt [5].
The Debian distribution is also available for a wide range of
platforms, in addition to the ubiquitous x86/pc.
