Radome

"Radome" is a synonym for "Radar Dome". It was originally a dome-shaped protective housing for radar antennae. Radomes aren't just protective housings, though, they're designed to be transparent to RF radiation. In radar applications, the radome was designed to avoid spurious interference.

In microwave applications, like 802.11, it's common to see yagi antennae enclosed within a radome. The radome is used here since water from rain or ice on the antenna's elements can cause interference, which can vastly degrade the signal quality.
