Be able to resolve internal names easily and simply eg: ping gho -> ping 10.10.129.1
To be able to delegate sub domains to relevant DNS administrators, who may configure their DNS as they like. eg: ap.gho -> 10.10.129.14
to make internal addresses easily distinguishable from ordinary (global) DNS names.
to make the DNS process as painless as possible for clients of the network eg: use DHCP to specify DNS servers and DNS search domains for the network.
the DNS system should scale well.
