I am using a Compaq (http://www.wireless.org.au/pages.php?node=02/03/26/2971297 WL200 for use as an AP ) in a Debian GNU/Linux box (Intel Pentium 166mHz, 64mb ram, 1.6GB Disk). %%%
Construction of a homebrew 10dBi omni-directional antenna is -still- planned,
pending further details from txrx @ austnet,
but I could -still- end up using a slotted waveguide, since I'm located on the
side of a hill with only 180 degrees of LoS.

My plans of using a DEC Hinote Ultra CT475 (486dx4 100mHz laptop) for
a wireless bridge didn't quite pan out, turned out to be quite dead.%%%

My other portable option would be an old Compaq 486 with 4mb ram, seems pointless though, unless I can source a ram expansion for it.%%%

For now though I have two P166 machines running as gateways, one for the optus cable connection, and the other a dedicated wireless gateway.
