The 'other' mobile phone technology used in Australia. While it replaced the old Analog network, it is important to note that this is indeed a true digital system. Reputed to have better coverage than GSM, especially in regional areas.

In order to carry many conversations over one frequency, it sends all communications in groups of bits mixed altogether, but tags each group belonging to a specific communication, with a different code. At the other end, each communication can be reassembled in the correct order based on the unique codes attached to certain groups of bits.

The two main providers of CDMA in Australia are [Telstra] and Hutchinson Telecomm/Orange/Three. The Spectrum that has been allocated for use is 800Mhz. Calls start at 9600bps, then are 'spread' to attain around 1.2 Mbps.
