It will hopefully be active within the coming month, pending available time.|| ---- ! Location Although not currently functional, I'll be linking directly to KFI, which brings me one hop away from the Geelong -> Melbourne link, JEE. {http://melbournewireless.org.au/nodes/map?id=JEE http://melbournewireless.org.au/nodes/view?id=JEE JEE} ! Node Log ++++ || '''24/07/2010''' || The connection to KFI is far too intermittent, so I have purchased a 24dBi conifer antenna to use instead. Will report on how this fares once it arrives. || '''18/07/2010''' || Testing connectivity to neighbouring AP (KFI). Currently having minor connectivity issues, hoping to solve them within the next week. || '''09/07/2010''' || Purchased SMA Female -> TNC Male (WRT54G uses a proprietary connector to stop people using other antennas!). || '''01/07/2010''' || Purchased used Linksys WRT54G v2.0 to use as router for network. || '''13/06/2010''' || Purchased 16dBi Yagi antenna. ++++ ! Equipment ++++ I have gone for a very affordable approach to connecting to Melbourne Wireless. I purchased the following equipment to connect to the network: * Linksys WRT54G v2.0 ** Purchased off eBay, $32 plus $20 shipping from U.S.A. If you're planning on doing the same, be careful of the power adapter as most of them are 120V only. * 16dBi Yagi antenna ** Purchased off eBay, $8.99 plus $16.99 shipping from China. Seems okay for the moment...but you get what you pay for {/regexpicons/emoticons/emoticon-face3.png ;)} * SMA Female -> TNC Male for Linksys WRT54G ** Purchased off eBay, $2.99 plus $2.00 shipping. You will need one of these if you plan on connecting a cheapie antenna, as the WRT54G uses a TNC plug. * 24dBi Conifer 2.4Ghz Antenna ** The 16dBi Yagi ended up being a dodgy unit (can't expect much for $8.99), so I have purchased a 24dBi conifer antenna from CityTechnology for $100. Hopefully this does a better job than the Yagi. ++++
