An [Ethernet] device used to connect multiple [Client Clients], [Server Servers] and other network resources together on the same network.

Unlike a [Hub], which is a dumb device, a Switch has a limited intelligence.  A switch is able to read network traffic passing through it and forward it only to the recipient(s).  A Switch is able to determine which traffic to [Broadcast] or [Multicast], a [Hub] broadcasts all traffic.
