(http://www.lucent.com Lucent) is a former division of AT&T.  One of the things they took with them was the [WaveLAN] technology, which evolved from a proprietary protocol, through 802.11 and ultimately to 802.11b.

The wireless division was spun off to form a new company, Orinoco, and now sell a range of cards (including the OrinocoSilver), [AccessPoint]s and various accessories.
