[IEEE] [802.11g] is a standardisation effort aimed at allowing the high bit rates of [802.11a], but using the 2.4GHz [ISM] band (as used by [802.11b]).

[802.11g] will be backwards compatible with [802.11b]. The [IEEE] confirmed the [802.11g] standard in June, 2003. Not to be confused with Broadcom's early implementation, [54g].
