[802.11] is the original [IEEE] Wireless LAN specification, and now encapsulates a number of task groups which have made several advancements on the specification. Like the now widely recognised WiFi standard ([802.11b]), it operates in the 2.4GHz [ISM] band, however it only provides 1Mbps and 2Mbps speeds (using [BPSK] and [QPSK] modulation respectively). Many cards and access points are still available "after-market" (and for very low prices), however [802.11b] is more widely accepted. ! 802.11 Task Groups The [802.11] [IEEE] working group encapsulates the following standards managed by the various [IEEE] [802.11] task groups: || ||[802.11a]||54Mbps [WLAN] in the 5GHz [ISM] band|| || ||[802.11b]||11Mbps [WLAN] in the 2.4GHz [ISM] band|| || ||[802.11c]||[AccessPoint Access Point] bridging|| || ||[802.11d]||Extensions to operate in additional regulatory domains|| || ||[802.11e]||Quality of Service ([QoS])|| || ||[802.11f]||Inter [AccessPoint Access Point] Protocol (Roaming!)|| || ||[802.11g]||54Mbps [WLAN] in the 2.4GHz [ISM] band|| || ||[802.11h]||Spectrum Managed [802.11a] ([SMa])|| || ||[802.11i]||Enhanced [WLAN] security|| Note that [802.11b-plus 802.11b+] is '''not''' an [IEEE] standard, but is also commonly being used, and is compatible with [802.11b] equipment. !
